Yes - Most definitely. However, Ebike riders should ensure they have their battery fully charged and know the range of their bike/battery combination. Remember e-bike range depends on total weight of bike and rider along with the amount of assistance used and amount of climbing you will do on the route. One should also take the severity of the gradient into consideration. Finally e-bikes should be road legal for EU/UK which means limiting assistance to speeds under 25KPH / 15.5MPH
So this one is best described by example. I'm over 100KG, and have ridden over all of the course on Gravel bike with 38mm tyres. Those 38mm tyres were generous (looked more like 40mm or so) . I did take it easy through the rough patches of gravel of which there are some. I swapped those out for some 47mm tyres and went tubeless and was puncture free on them over 2000 km last year. I have also ridden the 65K course on a mountain bike - mine is a 2016 Scott with 27.5inch wheels and 2.25inch tyres. Virtually all the Gravel is in the first half of the courses, the tarmac/backroads can be rough in places but generally fairly good surface. A tire, wide enough for your weight, which is fairly fast rolling would be my recommendation. Ideally done on a gravel bike, but certainly the 65K and 40K can be done on an MTB. As virtually all of the extra distance in the 85K is on gravel I would also say the mtb is suitable for the 85K, in particular you may find the lower gearing around Belmore welcome (unless of course like me you've re-geared your gravel bike anyhow).
We will send a confirmation email just before the event. Our current plans are to have sign-on session on Friday 16th 6PM-9PM and then on Saturday Morning from 7am to 9.30am. The event schedule is that 85K cyclists will depart at 10:00 am from the Cottage Meadow (the park in front of the village) with the 65K event at 10:30 and the 40K at 10:40. The plan is to finish the event at the cottage meadow also, with our after event food and beer available there.
Main Parking will be at the Football Pitch. We will have other parking available at Blacklion Enterprise Centre. Marshals will direct you to parking. Sign-on will be at the Lakeland Community care building and will be well signposted. We would advise on Saturday that people park up first, then sign-on. Parking is Free, however its a Saturday so people will be accessing the businesses in town, so our marshals will ask you to move and park in designated spaces so our local businesses aren't inconvenienced.
Shower facilities : Showers are available at the Football dressing rooms on a first come, first served basis. This event is to provide funding for our new build where a more 'on demand' system can be catered for.
Bike Wash : There will be a hose available at the rear of our dressing rooms to give bikes a quick clean over.
Toilets : Toilets at Football club, At Sign-on building (Lakeland Community care building, not the community centre where those of you who do the gravel grinder sign-on) and also public toilets are available at the Cottage Meadow.
Toilets en route : We have toilet facilities open at food stop in Kiltyclogher and at the drinks/pit stop in Glenfarne on the 65K and 85K routes.
While we ecourage people to bring enough food and water/fluid to last them over the whole of the course we are providing drinks stops and food stops along the way. We will have a pit-stop/drink stop at the turn for Lough Formal, where the 40K route goes left to descend on the Cornacully road and the 65K/85K route goes right to pass around Lough Formal. This is the only stop on the 40K route. Then we will have a Food stop at the community centre in Kiltyclogher (involves a right at the Statue (roundabout)) . There will be a further pitstop/drinkstop available at the Rainbow in Glenfarne. We aim to have some more substantial food at the Kiltyclogher food stop - sandwiches, fruit loaf, buns type. We aim to have some fruit and water along with some sweets like jelly babies/beans at the pitstops. Further details will be announced as we get closer. After you complete your event, there will be hot food at the cottage meadow along with a beer and hopefully the weather will allow everyone to have a good chat. We have the Porterbellies band on retainer and they'll start the afternoon/evening's entertainment, and this is in the middle of the village festival and there are other activities planned for that evening.
Yes every entrant will receive a medal. We're also putting together a goody bag. We can confirm we're not doing a T Shirt. bit the goody bag will be well stocked. We can confirm you'll get a free beer with your food after the event and follow us on facebook or check in here from time to time and we will keep you updated.
