RIDER RULES and EVENT WAIVER

RIDER RULES

All riders participating (hereafter referred to as “Riders”) in The Borderlands Cycle Event (hereafter referred to as the “Event”), regardless of route, must read, adhere to and agree to our “Rider Rules” before entering and participating in the Event.

By completing your purchase of entry we will accept that you are compliant with, have read, and understand all the Rider Rules

If you do not agree with any of the conditions detailed below then please do not proceed with your purchase as post-queries will not be accepted.

ALL ENTRIES ARE NON REFUNDABLE AND NON TRANSFERABLE after July 1st 2024

Any Transfers and refunds will attract an admin charge of £10 as merchandise may already have been ordered.

A change of route from the longer routes to the shorter 40K route is permitted up to 10 days before the event. (ie by midnight Wed 7th Aug 2024) No refund of difference from changing from the longer events to the shorter event will be made.  No change of route from 40K to the longer routes will be permitted.

Participants must accept that in the event of severe weather, safety issues or any other events or force majeure (eg Covid) that directly affect the welfare of participants that the event schedule may be altered or routes amended or curtailed to prevent risk to participants and staff of the event. Decisions will be made by the event safety officer in association with local authorities and other event support partners to issue a final decision. Participant welfare is our primary concern, and will be the deciding factor.

In the event of postponement a rescheduled date will be arranged. All entries will be transferred automatically to the new date. We are advised that under UK Consumer law you may request a full refund. We obviously hope this situation never arises and should it do, entrants will stick with us on the new date.

The Event takes place in remote areas of County Fermanagh, Leitrim and Cavan Each route, the 85K, 65K and 40K, contains portions which are far from towns and conveniences. For this reason, all Riders must adhere to these Rider Rules.

Cycling is a strenuous activity and the distances and elevation for all routes is indicated on our website. Riders understand that off road cycling in particular requires appropriate bike handling skills and control. Riders must be aware of their limitations and only participate if they are properly trained and at a level of fitness and health commensurate with advanced, endurance athletic/cycling events.

The Borderlands Cycle is a “self-supported” event. It is the Rider’s responsibility to understand basic bike maintenance, such as changing a flat tyre and carry the necessary tools.  Further, it is the Rider’s responsibility to understand their nutritional needs for the Event. While the Event organisers will deploy “Food Stops” and “Pit Stops” along the course, Riders are responsible for carrying enough food and water to traverse the distances they’ve selected carrying with them what they need between the Start/Finish Line and “Food/Pit stops.” All Riders will have an emergency contact information and crews will be deployed for anyone who abandons the event by contacting the Event Organisers.

All Riders of the Event must sign on on either Friday evening (16th August) or Saturday morning (17th August) of the event.

All Riders must be 18 years of age or older on the date of the Event.

Riders of the Event are responsible to follow the rules of the road and also understand that portions of the Event follow public pathways, walkways and access through public car parks that are open to pedestrians and vehicles. It is the responsibility of the Riders to safely share the roads (gravel and other), pathways, walkways and car parks with runners, hikers, walkers and vehicles alike. Riders should be prepared for vehicles at all times and understand that all roads are fully open to traffic.

While the organisers of the Event will mark the routes with signage, as well as provide Riders with GPS files of the routes prior to the Event, it is the responsibility of the Riders to navigate the route on their own. Our Marshals are there to show direction only. Riders are the decision makers and it is their responsibility whether to proceed or not.  All Riders must follow marshal instructions when they are present.  Riders should be courteous to each other and warn other riders of hazards where safe to do so.

Riders must pay attention to obstacles, other Riders, and signs posted throughout the routes. Where routes merge riders should obey signs to control that merge. At all other times slower riders should stay left, with faster riders overtaking when safe to do so.

Riders are obliged to give assistance to other riders suffering from a medical issue. If riders come across a medical casualty please contact the emergency number on their behalf and stay with them till help arrives.

Littering on the course is strictly forbidden. What goes in with you comes out with you, or into rubbish bins at the Feed Stations or Start/Finish area.

Our Forest routes are on shared roads. There may be forest activity or other users on these forest routes.  Please be considerate to other users.

There will be photographers and videographers throughout the course and at the Start/Finish area. Riders agree and accept to have their images captured and that those images may be utilised by the Event organisers for promotional, media, and/or press purposes.

Cutoff Times: All cut-off times will be announced with the route announcement the week leading up to the Event. The cut-off times will be strictly enforced for Rider safety on the course.
